Vermys Update

In between what has turned into quite a bit of Lurking II update work, we have continued to proceed with Vermys. Progress has been relatively slow as we discuss the direction in which the project should proceed and begin to plan accordingly, I begin to grasp a new programming language and tools like Blender, and we collect and organize ideas to make Vermys special. I have composed several musical pieces, and written code for the game which is approximately caught up with the original proof at this point. Many aspects, such as the character creator, have only been roughed in as we decide on what direction to take with character generation and development.

I will likely proceed with the development of the original proof under a different name and new story line although the scale will likely be smaller than originally planned (but who knows). I will set up a project page as soon as these items are decided. There are several reasons for this decision. Most importantly, I felt like the project was taking on some important character of its own with an 80s retro feel that I love. Secondly, because the two versions roughly parallel in style and (currently planned) user interface, I have already found that proceeding with development brings to light potential issues with mechanics that will allow me to work out methods quickly and avoid the same pitfalls in Vermys. Additionally, continuing to develop the proof under separate guise will allow me to try out ideas ahead of time and adapt what works to Vermys or make improvements upon work and directional decisions. Finally, it is the current plan that Justin (who is more of a product of the 90s) will be taking a more forward position in directing Vermys. He is much busier than I am and therefore the project will proceed more slowly (and carefully).

As I originally began the Vermys project last September as a side project while I waited for Justin's work on L2 to sync up, so shall I continue it under new guise. Once I have established a project page, I will offer a download of the work in progress and update it periodically for any that might be interested in having a look or providing feedback and ideas.

Journey onward! -Aaron

I'm looking forward to the new project page and the first playable build! Until then there is still much work for me to do in Lurking II. ;) The screenshot immediately reminds me of Ultima Underworld. You guys never stop to amaze me. :)

Thank you! Good luck with L2. Let me know if you complete it (or get stuck and need a hint).
